Business Central reporting for finance and operations

From invoices and delivery notes to financial statements and Power BI dashboards, we build reports on Business Central data that people actually use.

The challenge

Reporting needs come in three different kinds that are easy to confuse: printed documents, financial statements and analytical dashboards. Each has its own best tool in the Business Central ecosystem, and forcing one tool to do all three creates slow, fragile reports.

Technology we use

  • AL reports and report extensions
  • Power BI Desktop and Service
  • Business Central connector for Power BI
  • API pages for reporting
  • Excel

How we approach it

The same four steps apply whether the project is a rollout, an integration or a fix. Only the depth changes.

  1. Separate the report types

Operational documents, financial reporting and analytics are handled with different tools and different owners.

  2. Fix the data model first

Dimensions, analysis views and consistent master data make every report simpler.

  3. Build for the reader

A report is finished when the person who needs it can use it without a walkthrough.

  4. Publish and maintain

Refresh schedules, access control and documentation are agreed at delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Can Business Central integrate with Power BI?

Yes. Power BI has a Business Central connector, and Business Central can also expose custom API pages for reporting. Power BI reports can be embedded in Business Central pages.

Should we report from Business Central directly or from a data store?

For moderate data volumes and standard reports, Business Central data can be used directly. For large volumes or cross-system analysis, staging data in a separate store is usually better.

Can you adapt our invoice or delivery note layouts?

Yes. We build layouts in the format that suits you: Word for easy editing, RDLC for complex layouts and Excel where users want data in a spreadsheet.
